Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
I didn’t want those brushstrokes in the painting of my life anymore.
I couldn’t forget them. Each day I was reminded of the mistakes I had made and wished I had a big eraser, to wipe it from my memory, and everyone else’s too.
Certain people were sure to take every opportunity to remind me of a past I’d rather forget. It seemed they took pleasure in heaping shame upon my head, even years after I turned my life around.
I knew God had forgiven me, yet I couldn’t seem to rise above the mistakes of my past.
Until one day, I had a conversation with a woman who asked me a direct question. “You’ve forgiven other people, but have you forgiven yourself?”
The minute she asked it, I knew I had not. I’d been beating myself up, and letting others beat me up too, for mistakes I’d made years ago, carrying a burden Jesus already paid for.
Forgive yourself for the mistakes you’ve made. Jesus already paid the price. You don’t have to walk in condemnation anymore. If you’ve asked God for forgiveness, He has already forgiven you, and wants you to move on.
Stop carrying the burden of your past with you every day. It’s weighing you down, not letting you move forward. Cut ties with it by forgiving yourself and forgiving others.
Jesus wants you free.
Lord, I ask forgiveness for ______________. I receive your forgiveness, and I now choose to forgive myself. I will no longer walk in condemnation. I thank you Jesus that you bore this on the cross for me and I am free. in Jesus name, Amen.
